Willson Contreras prepares for rehab assignment with Double-A Portland

Boston Red Sox catcher Willson Contreras is nearing a return to the major league roster following a stint on the 10-day injured list. The veteran player has been sidelined with a strained left hamstring. According to the team's recovery timeline, Contreras is set to participate in at least one rehab game with the Double-A Portland team this Friday. His progress will be monitored during this appearance to determine his readiness for activation. Contreras is eligible to be removed from the injured list later this week, provided he suffers no setbacks during the assignment. The Red Sox intend to evaluate his physical status following the outing before finalizing his return to the active lineup.
