Indie wrestler Mickie Knuckles has been hospitalized in a burn unit after a fire spot during a recent deathmatch. The incident occurred in late August during a P.O.R. Wrestling event. During her match, Knuckles was tossed by a male opponent into a plywood box that was lit on fire after Knuckles herself doused it in lighter fluid. Even though she was quickly sprayed with a fire extinguisher and pulled away, Knuckles —who had a run in TNA in 2008 — was still very badly burned. That stance has since changed, and the wrestling veteran’s burns required her to be admitted into a hospital, according to a GoFundMe set up by one of her close friends. The GoFundMe is seeking $25,000 to help Knuckles cover medical costs, as well as to make up for lost income due to her hospitalization. The campaign’s organizer, Joshua Evans, wrote that Knuckles was required to be admitted to a burn unit a “couple of days” after the fire spot. At the time of the campaign’s launch, Evans said she was still in the hospital, where she remains “receiving treatment and beginning what may be a difficult road to recovery.” “Anyone who knows Mickie knows just how tough she is. But more importantly, behind the wrestler everyone knows and loves, Mickie is a devoted mother to two beautiful children who depend on her,” Evans wrote. “Mickie supports her family by doing what she has dedicated so much of her life to — traveling and wrestling all over the world.” Evans added that due to being hospitalized, Knuckles has already canceled several wrestling gigs. “For an independent professional wrestler, canceled bookings mean lost income. As she continues receiving treatment and focuses on healing, there may be additional bookings, travel opportunities, and income she simply cannot take on,” he said. Evans added: “Mickie has spent years giving everything she has to professional wrestling and its fans.
