WWE's Royal Rumble 2027 will take place on February 6 in Phoenix, marking its return to the U.S. from Saudi Arabia. Scheduled for the same weekend as AEW's Dynasty pay-per-view in England, the event coincides with the NFL playoffs. WWE contemplated moving the Rumble to February 20 to leverage Super Bowl promotions, but opted against it due to scheduling conflicts and potential disruptions to events leading to WrestleMania 43.

"The Royal Rumble is one of WWE’s most popular events of the year. The 2027 iteration returns to the United States from Saudi Arabia and will take place in Phoenix on February 6. That’s the same weekend as the AEW Dynasty pay-per-view, which is scheduled for February 7 in England. This isn’t a situation where WWE and AEW are directly competing against each other, but it does make for an extra busy weekend for wrestling fans, which could affect which show(s) they have time to watch. It’s not a coincidence this is the weekend between the NFL’s conference championship playoff games (Jan. 31) and the Super Bowl (Feb. 14). Even though WWE typically schedules the Rumble on that weekend each year to avoid competing with the NFL playoffs, WrestleVotes Radio says WWE actually discussed a new idea for scheduling the 2027 Rumble event. According to Votes, WWE considered scheduling the Royal Rumble on February 20, which is the weekend after the Super Bowl. The idea is that because the Royal Rumble and Super Bowl are both on ESPN next year, WWE’s partner could give the Rumble a major promotional boost during the Super Bowl broadcast, which will probably have over 100 million people watching it. It sounds like WWE ultimately decided against doing this because it would require too many changes to the rest of their schedule of events on the road to WrestleMania 43, and also because the NBA’s All-Star Weekend is scheduled for February 20 in Phoenix as well. Does the idea of the Royal Rumble taking place a little later on WWE’s calendar (and maybe closer to WrestleMania) sound like a good idea to you, or does it seem strange whenever the event doesn’t happen in late January? Let me know if you think we might see a future Royal Rumble event take place after the Super Bowl some time soon, Cagesiders.
