Alex Hoppe leads Willmar Cardinals offense in first start at quarterback

FootballWillmar senior Alex Hoppe made his starting debut at quarterback last Friday at Hodapp Field. Following an offseason competition with teammates Briar Schuett and Jacob Ellingson, Hoppe secured the starting position to lead the Cardinals offense. In his first outing, he completed 11 of 21 passes for 248 yards and threw three touchdowns. Head coach Jon Konold noted that Hoppe showed poise while spreading the ball to six different receivers throughout the game. The senior quarterback previously served as a cornerback and has transitioned into this new role despite managing a partially torn labrum sustained during his junior year. Willmar faces Westonka in their next matchup this Friday in Minnetrista.
