Almeraq secured a four-and-a-quarter-length victory in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park on Saturday. Guided by jockey Tom Marquand, the four-year-old horse asserted control two furlongs from the finish to lead the field. The result follows a difficult performance at the July Cup in Newmarket, which trainer William Haggas attributed to ground conditions. Last year's winner Big Mojo and Marvelman set the initial pace before falling off in the closing stages. Almeraq is now expected to compete in the Qatar Racing British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 17. The win serves as a recovery for the horse, who endured a significant fall at York one year ago.
- •Almeraq won the Betfair Sprint Cup by four-and-a-quarter lengths.
- •Jockey Tom Marquand rode the 9-4 favorite to victory.
- •The horse will target the British Champions Sprint at Ascot on October 17.
- •The four-year-old rebounded from a disappointing outing at the July Cup.
"Almeraq left an off-day at Newmarket clearly in the rearview mirror with a dominating victory in the Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park.
