Anonymous Big Ten coach criticizes Alabama's physicality under Kalen DeBoer

An anonymous Big Ten running backs coach recently questioned the physical identity of the Alabama football program under head coach Kalen DeBoer. The coach characterized the team as resembling a Pac-12 program, citing a perceived lack of toughness in their play style. This critique follows Alabama's 38-3 loss to Indiana in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1, 2026, where the Crimson Tide were outgained 407-193 and held to 23 rushing yards. Although DeBoer signed a contract extension through January 2033 after a 20-8 start, his team’s rushing attack struggled throughout the previous season, ranking 13th in the SEC. Alabama enters the 2026 season looking to address these concerns, starting with a matchup against East Carolina on Sept. 5.
