Army quarterback Cale Hellums prepares for 2026 season opener against Bryant

Army senior quarterback Cale Hellums enters the 2026 season as the confirmed starter for the Black Knights. Offensive coordinator Cody Worley noted that Hellums has shown marked improvement in his comfort with the team’s system and overall decision-making during the offseason. After splitting time at the position last year, Hellums solidified his role during the latter half of the 2025 campaign. He finished his junior season with 1,223 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on the ground, while adding 694 passing yards. The team begins its season this Saturday, Sept. 5, at home against Bryant. Coaching staff members expect his development to mirror the trajectory of former quarterback Bryson Daily, who experienced significant growth between his junior and senior years.
