Chris Klieman welcomes Collin Klein as head coach during Kansas State debut

Former Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman officially ushered in the new era for the program on Saturday, September 5, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Klieman, who retired following the 2025 season, greeted his successor, Collin Klein, as the Wildcats prepared for their opener against Nicholls. During the game, Klieman received a standing ovation and was honored with a video tribute on the scoreboard. The Wildcats reached the end zone on the opening drive of the game under the direction of Klein. Klieman remains connected to the university in an adviser and consultant role for athletic director Gene Taylor. Klein, a former Kansas State quarterback, previously served on Klieman’s staff before spending two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Texas A&M.
