Colts claim defensive back Kapena Gushiken off waivers from Eagles

The Indianapolis Colts claimed defensive back Kapena Gushiken off waivers following his release by the Philadelphia Eagles. Gushiken, an undrafted rookie out of Ole Miss, participated in training camp with Philadelphia and was widely expected to secure a spot on their 53-man roster. Indianapolis pursued the defender during the pre-draft process and attempted to sign him immediately after the draft before he ultimately chose the Eagles. General manager Chris Ballard indicated the team plans to utilize Gushiken for his versatility, particularly at the nickel position, and his contributions on special teams coverage units. The rookie is currently learning the defensive scheme under coordinator Lou Anarumo while listed as a backup to Justin Walley. Gushiken previously served in a gunner role during his time with Philadelphia.
