The Detroit Lions released defensive linemen Tyre West and Levi Onwuzurike from their practice squad on Friday. The roster moves occur one day before the team opens its regular season against the New Orleans Saints at Ford Field. West had been signed to the practice squad on August 31 after being waived by the team following the conclusion of the preseason. A seventh-round draft pick in 2026, West played at Tennessee from 2022 to 2025 where he recorded 65 tackles and 10 sacks. The Lions are set to host the Saints on September 13 at 1 p.m. EDT. No immediate replacements for the two roster spots were announced by the team.
