Furman prepares for upcoming football game against Tennessee

Furman travels to Neyland Stadium this Saturday to face No. 18 Tennessee in a 3:30 p.m. EDT matchup. The game will be available for viewing on SEC Network+. Furman enters the contest with a 1-0 record and holds the distinction of being the winningest program in the Southern Conference. The university mascot, the Paladin, represents a knight on a horse and was officially adopted for all athletic teams in 1961 following a student vote. The term originally applied only to the basketball team, while previous football teams were known as the Hurricane. Furman has a history that includes an FCS national championship victory in 1988 under head coach Jimmy Satterfield.
