Iowa names former quarterback C.J. Beathard honorary captain for Cy-Hawk game

The Iowa football program has appointed former quarterback C.J. Beathard as the honorary captain for Saturday’s matchup against Iowa State. The Hawkeyes are scheduled to host the in-state rivals at a sold-out Kinnick Stadium for the 2026 Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Beathard, who lettered at Iowa from 2013 to 2016, compiled a 21-7 record as a starter and remains the only quarterback in school history to win his first 13 career starts. During his time at Iowa, he guided the team to a Big Ten West title and an appearance in the 2016 Rose Bowl. As honorary captain, Beathard will join the team captains at midfield for the pregame coin toss and participate in locker room activities before and after the game. Kickoff is set for 6:36 p.m. CT with television coverage on NBC.
