Ivy Shepherd captured her first USGA title Thursday by defeating Catherine McEvoy 5 and 4 in the final match of the 39th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur. Held at Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey, the championship match saw Shepherd take an early lead by winning the third and seventh holes with pars, followed by a birdie on the ninth. She extended her advantage on the second nine with three straight pars and an eagle on the par-4 13th hole. The match ended on the 14th hole when Shepherd made par while McEvoy recorded a bogey. Shepherd, a former assistant women's golf coach at Indiana University, secured the victory in her first appearance at a USGA event. She reached the final after overcoming Vanessa Wang and Julia Potter-Bobb in Wednesday's quarterfinal and semifinal matches.
