Jack Cochran wins in New London return with rout of Joel Barlow

Coach Jack Cochran returned to the New London sideline Thursday night, leading the Whalers to a 56-17 victory over Joel Barlow at Pat Cannamela Field. Junior Zhi'Mir Maddox-Moore sparked the offense by returning the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and adding three additional touchdown receptions before halftime. New London established a 36-17 lead by the intermission, with quarterback JoJo Rivera-Perry completing multiple long-distance scoring passes. Joel Barlow struggled to maintain defensive pressure as injuries and extreme humidity forced the game to move to running time during the fourth quarter. The victory marks the beginning of Cochran's tenure in his return to New London, where he previously won a state championship in 2008. The team moves to 1-0 on the season following the Connecticut High School Football Alliance contest.
