St. Joseph defeats Darien 28-7 in football season opener

No. 4-ranked St. Joseph opened its football season with a 28-7 victory over Darien on Thursday evening. After falling behind early on a 36-yard touchdown pass from Hugh Dunlap to Bruce Hopkins, St. Joseph surged back with 28 unanswered points. Jack Mooney threw three touchdown passes, connecting with Justin Daniels, Joey Baskin, and Jake Rios. Rios also contributed on special teams, pinning the Wave deep in their own territory with a punt that eventually led to a 37-yard return touchdown by Michael Charland. The win marks the third time in the last four meetings that the Hogs have bested the Blue Wave. St. Joseph moves to 1-0 on the season, while Darien begins with a 0-1 record.
