Mason football secures 30-17 victory over state champion DeWitt

Mason football improved to 2-0 with a 30-17 victory against reigning Division 3 state champion DeWitt on Thursday, Sept. 3. Mason established an early lead by scoring on five of its first six possessions to enter halftime ahead 27-0. Troy Peters led the offense with 18 carries for 193 yards and a rushing touchdown, while also throwing for an additional score. DeWitt narrowed the deficit in the second half following a touchdown pass from Griffin Braman to Lucius Cappelletti and a successful two-point conversion to Channing Ridley. However, Jacob Ackley sealed the result with his third field goal of the night late in the fourth quarter. Mason moves forward to face Haslett, while DeWitt prepares for its CAAC Blue opening game against Everett.
