Maurice Clarett to ring Victory Bell at Ohio State season opener

Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett will serve as the Victory Bell ringer for the Buckeyes' 2026 season opener against Ball State on September 5. This selection marks the ninth time the university has utilized the tradition since its inception last season. Clarett played a central role in the 2002 national championship team, recording 1,237 rushing yards during his freshman season before facing off-field legal struggles. Following his release from prison in 2010, Clarett transitioned into motivational speaking and mentoring college athletes. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day brought him back to the program roughly one year ago to work with current players. The same September 5 event will also feature the official enshrinement of former coach Jim Tressel into the Ohio Stadium Ring of Honor.
