No. 1 ranked Memorial defeated No. 4 Mater Dei 52-21 on Friday, Sept. 11, at Reitz Bowl. Although the score remained tight with a three-point margin late in the second quarter, Memorial outscored the Wildcats 45-14 during an eight-minute stretch spanning both halves. Quarterback Luke Brown threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns while running back Geno Aimone added 130 rushing yards. Wide receiver Dru Ellis returned from a two-game absence to record five catches for 126 yards and three scores. Mater Dei struggled to maintain drives, converting only 3-of-13 third downs against a Memorial defense that coach John Hurley credited with improved effort.
