Messenger and Herald open voting for football player of the week

The Fremont News-Messenger and Herald have opened a poll for the Week 3 high school football player of the week. Voting runs from 3 p.m. Monday through 3 p.m. Friday, September 11. Candidates include Adam Knight of Genoa, Elliot Laird of Port Clinton, Carter Luzader of Margaretta, Ish Nagy of Woodmore, and Jaxon Sommers of Lakota. These players were nominated following Week 3 victories for their respective teams. Laird contributed to Port Clinton's win over Oak Harbor with a rushing score, 10 tackles, two sacks, and two pass breakups. Luzader recorded four rushing touchdowns and two receiving scores in Margaretta's win against Brookside, while Sommers tallied three touchdowns and two interceptions for Lakota against Arcadia. Knight and Nagy also earned nominations for their defensive and offensive performances in Genoa and Woodmore victories.
