Mitchell Weiser returns to competitive action for Werder Bremen

Mitchell Weiser returned to competitive football for Werder Bremen in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Cologne. The 32-year-old entered the match in the 83rd minute at the RheinEnergieStadion, marking his first appearance in 14 months. Weiser had been sidelined since May 17, 2025, after suffering an ACL tear last summer. Head coach Daniel Thioune noted the sentimental value of the return, as the player originally developed through the youth academy at his hometown club, Cologne. Despite his emotional performance, both the player and coach acknowledged that his fitness level remains a work in progress, with Weiser admitting he was physically drained after just ten minutes of action.
