The NFL has updated its league playbook for the 2026 season with four substantive rule changes. Officials also gained new authority under Rule 19-2, which permits intervention on flagrant football or non-football acts that occur off the ball, provided video evidence is available and the review happens before the start of the next play.

- •Touchbacks from 50-yard line kickoffs are now placed at the 20-yard line.
- •Any team may declare an onside kick at any time during a game.
- •Officials can now intervene on flagrant acts not called on the field using video review.
