College SportsNorth Dakota State University defensive end Blake Schiltz was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday following his collegiate debut. In the Bison’s 33-7 victory over Jacksonville State on August 29, the redshirt freshman recorded a solo tackle, a sack, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the third quarter. His defensive effort also forced a missed 52-yard field goal attempt from Jacksonville State late in the fourth quarter. This performance marked the university's first game as a member of the Mountain West after transitioning from the FCS level. Schiltz, a 2025 Pine Island graduate, enters the active roster after redshirting during the previous season. The Bison, now 1-0 on the year, continue their schedule at home against Fordham on September 5.
