Plattsburgh and Saranac Lake earn football victories in Week 0

FootballSix Champlain Valley Athletic Conference teams opened their football seasons this weekend with games against Northern Athletic Conference opponents. Plattsburgh defeated Franklin Academy 45-0 on Saturday, relying on a balanced offensive performance and a stout defense that held the Huskies to 100 total yards. Colden Johnson scored three rushing touchdowns for the Hornets, while Ryan Colburn contributed a 92-yard punt return. Saranac Lake overcame four turnovers to defeat Massena 19-14 after a productive second half. Ethan Harvey led the Red Storm with 124 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Owen Lawrence added 97 yards and two scores. Elsewhere, Ogdensburg Free Academy recorded a 28-7 win over Beekmantown. The CVAC finished the weekend with a 4-2 record, marking the league’s strongest Week 0 showing since the schedule was reintroduced in 2022.
