Agent Rich Paul recently stated that Stephen Curry should receive profit-sharing and stock options as part of his compensation with the Golden State Warriors. During an appearance on the Game Over podcast, Paul argued that Curry has significantly driven the financial growth of the franchise since 2010. He compared the structure of modern NBA contracts to corporate models where executives receive equity to mirror the compounding value of an organization. The franchise, purchased for roughly $450 million sixteen years ago, is now valued between $10 billion and $11 billion. Paul suggested that despite Curry’s existing contract, his unique influence on the team's brand makes additional ownership-style benefits appropriate. Others, including Kevin Durant, have previously echoed sentiments that the guard deserves an ownership stake for his contributions.
