Saints sign veteran placekicker Daniel Carlson to address special teams inconsistency

The New Orleans Saints signed veteran placekicker Daniel Carlson on August 24 to bolster their special teams unit. A two-time All-Pro who spent his previous eight seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, Carlson brings a career field-goal accuracy of 86.9 percent to New Orleans. He made his debut for the team just two days after his first practice in a preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Carlson converted both of his field-goal attempts, including a 53-yard kick to secure the 27-24 win. Saints head coach Kellen Moore acknowledged the difficulty of the roster decision, noting that Carlson moved ahead of competitors Charlie Smyth and Tanner Brown after his brief evaluation period. The team expects Carlson to provide the stability at the position that has been missing over recent seasons.
