Sir Nick Faldo names Rory McIlroy among five greatest golfers of all time

Sir Nick Faldo has named Rory McIlroy as one of the five greatest golfers in history. Faldo, a winner of 43 professional tournaments and six major championships, stated that McIlroy belongs on a list alongside Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. This assessment follows McIlroy's victory at The Masters in 2025, which completed his career Grand Slam. Faldo noted that McIlroy has performed at a high level with 29 professional wins in America. While Faldo ranks McIlroy fifth, he acknowledged the challenge of comparing players across different eras of the sport. Separately, McIlroy has previously identified Tiger Woods as the greatest player in history, citing the caliber of golf Woods displayed during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. Jack Nicklaus remains the record holder for major championships with 18 titles.
