Tennessee Tech defeats Chattanooga in Southern Conference football opener

Tennessee Tech improved to 2-0 on the season with a 24-9 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday night in the Southern Conference opener for both teams. Quarterback Jax Leatherwood led the offense with 161 yards passing and two touchdowns, completing 19 of 32 attempts. The Golden Eagles capitalized on defensive play, as interceptions by Jameson Wharton and Omari Philyaw set up scoring drives. Marcus Harris II added a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to help secure the lead before halftime. Chattanooga trailed throughout the second half despite 113 rushing yards from Journey Wyche, with all their points coming from three field goals by Jude Kelley. Tennessee Tech moves on to host Samford on Sept. 12, while Chattanooga travels to face Eastern Kentucky on the same day.
