Texas A&M honored long-time head coach R.C. Slocum on Friday by unveiling a bronze statue in the north plaza of Kyle Field. Slocum served as the program's head coach for 14 seasons starting in 1989, compiling a 123–47–2 record and securing four conference titles. His tenure remains the longest and most successful in the history of the university. Before taking the head coaching position, he spent nearly three decades in Aggieland as an assistant and defensive coordinator under previous leadership. Beyond his coaching accomplishments, Slocum twice served as the interim athletic director and holds a place in both the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame. The new monument arrives as the team prepares to open the 2026 season against Missouri State on Saturday night.
