Vero Beach defeats St. Lucie West Centennial 56-0 in district opener

Vero Beach secured a 56-0 victory over St. Lucie West Centennial in their Class 6A-District 8 opener held Friday at South County Regional Park. Freshman quarterback Makai White led the offense, completing 15 of 16 passes for 251 yards and five touchdowns in his first full start since taking over for the injured Wonderful "Champ" Monds IV. The team built an early lead with 35 points in the first quarter and 49 by halftime. Wide receiver Latravious Woods contributed significantly to the scoring, including a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown. The defense maintained the shutout with Jamarion Hillsman recording an interception return for a touchdown and several other players contributing sacks. Vero Beach next faces Boca Raton Spanish River on Friday.
