Washington Commanders punter Tress Way announced Thursday that the 2026 NFL season will likely be the final year of his career. Way, a team captain and longtime franchise veteran, shared the news after informing head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters of his intentions. The punter originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2014 before joining Washington, where he established himself as a Pro Bowl specialist. Over the course of 12 seasons, he has missed only one game and previously led the NFL in punting average twice, including his career-best 49.6-yard average in 2019. Way noted that his decision is rooted in a desire to conclude his tenure with the team that first made him feel wanted in the league. He is set to begin his 13th season on Sunday.
