Wickenburg football continues season with 13-player roster after opener win

Wickenburg High School currently fields a 13-player varsity football team following a 44-0 season-opening victory against Tuba City Greyhills Academy on Aug. 28. The program, which endured a winless 2025 season, struggled with low turnout during summer workouts before securing enough participants to proceed with an independent seven-game schedule. Head coach Justin Stangler leads a staff of five while managing a roster expected to increase to 17 players in the coming week. The team's scheduled Sept. 4 game against Whiteriver Alchesay was canceled due to a tribal function, with the next match set for Sept. 11 against Hopi. The Arizona Interscholastic Association permitted the school to shift to a non-traditional schedule to ensure the program could compete despite its limited roster size.
