Winchester defeats Monroe Central in Golden Rivalry football matchup

Winchester Community earned its first win of the season Friday, defeating Monroe Central 32-8 in the fifth annual Golden Rivalry at Parker City. Winchester limited the Golden Bears to 33 rushing yards and forced four turnovers, including one interception and three fumble recoveries. Freshman quarterback Caleb Tarter opened the scoring with a 12-yard run, while junior running back Joey Vasquez contributed 160 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Monroe Central managed one score on a 67-yard pass from Elias Hart to Caden Dance, but the Golden Bears struggled with ball security throughout the night. Winchester head coach Mike Jones noted that his team eliminated the small breakdowns that hindered their previous performances. Monroe Central, now 2-1, prepares to host Tri High in their next game.
