Kansas City Chiefs claim linebacker Jack Pyburn off waivers from Tampa Bay

The Kansas City Chiefs claimed linebacker Jack Pyburn off waivers on Monday, interrupting plans for a potential return to the LSU football program. Pyburn, who recorded four sacks during the preseason for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, failed to secure a spot on their final roster. His availability followed recent litigation in Louisiana that briefly opened a path for players to return to college football from professional teams. LSU head coach Lane Kiffin had publicly discussed the possibility of recruiting players caught in this legal transition. Instead, Pyburn will join the Kansas City roster and participate in Andy Reid’s system. The team also added defensive tackle Bryson Eason after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers. LSU must now prepare for its season opener against Clemson on September 5 without the addition of Pyburn to its defensive rotation.
