LIV Golf adopts traditional format and announces schedule reduction

LIV Golf announced a transition to a traditional tournament model, shedding its signature 54-hole, no-cut format. The league is implementing cuts, Monday qualifiers, and expanding its roster to 75 players to align with standard professional golf structures. CEO Scott O’Neil stated the league will move to a 10-event calendar, encouraging players to compete on the DP World Tour for the remainder of their schedules. This pivot follows financial pressures that ended the league's period of high-expenditure disruption and independent operation. LIV Golf, which is currently filing for bankruptcy, is moving away from its original goal of challenging the PGA Tour to prioritize survival within the existing professional golf ecosystem. The organization no longer maintains the expansive budget that previously defined its operations.
