Mercyline Kirwa wins NCAA 10k title at track championships

Mercyline Kirwa, an Iowa State freshman, won the NCAA women's 10,000-meter title on June 11 at Hayward Field with a time of 31:54.88. Kirwa made a decisive move with 200 meters left, overtaking competitors Pamela Kosgei and Jane Hedengren, who finished second and third, respectively. The race was anticipated as a showdown between Kosgei and Hedengren, but Kirwa's performance changed the expected outcome. Amanda Moll also claimed the collegiate pole vault title, while Adaejah Hodge set a new NCAA record in the 100 meters during prelims. The championships continue with more events scheduled for this weekend.
