Monroe football defeats Edison in 2026 season opener

Monroe football opened its 2026 season with a 66-0 victory against Edison/SOTA/Padilla/SWW. The game occurred only two days after the team held a ceremony to receive championship rings for its 2025 state title run. Brien Walker led the offensive effort with three early touchdown receptions, while Pooty Cunningham accounted for six total scores, including five touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown. Ray Garcia also contributed to the scoring by finding the end zone on a rush and a punt return. The win marks a 1-0 start to the campaign for the Red Jackets as they begin their defense of the state championship.
