NASCAR driver and racing patriarch Gary Myers dies at 76

Gary Myers, a NASCAR driver from a multi-generational racing family, died Thursday, Sept. 10, at age 76. His son, Burt Myers, announced the death on social media. Gary Myers competed in NASCAR Winston Cup races every year from 1974 through 1978, with a career-best finish of 11th place. Beyond the Winston Cup, he raced in various series, including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the SMART Modified Tour. A long-time fixture at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C., he secured 38 victories at the venue. He was part of a family legacy that spans four generations, including his father, Billy Myers, his sons Burt and Jason, and his grandson Slate Myers. Cousin Danny “Chocolate” Myers, a well-known figure in the industry, also contributed to the family's extensive history in motorsports.
