NCAA president Charlie Baker opposes pro athletes returning to college sports

He noted that these returning players occupy roster spots otherwise available to younger athletes who are unlikely to play professionally. The governing body recently implemented an age-based, five-year eligibility model, effectively setting an age cap of 24. While this policy applies to incoming classes, it does not retroactively impact the Class of 2022, whose eligibility has expired. This distinction has prompted legal challenges, including pending litigation in Louisiana. Baker stated that the NCAA Board of Directors and Division I Cabinet determined the Class of 2022 should not be subject to the new requirements.
