Smyrna defeats Oakland 22-21 in Region 3-6A football matchup

Smyrna earned a 22-21 victory over Oakland on Sept. 4 in a Region 3-6A contest. Quarterback AJ Jackson directed the winning drive, throwing a two-point conversion pass to Jordan Edwards with 33 seconds remaining in the game. The result snapped a 17-game win streak for Oakland, which entered the matchup as the top-ranked team in the Tennessee statewide poll. Smyrna coach Mark Williams opted to attempt the two-point conversion rather than force overtime to secure the program's first win against the Patriots since 2011. Oakland dropped to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in region play following the loss. Smyrna moves to 1-2 on the season with a 1-0 record in the region.
