South Bend city cross country meet follows unconventional scoring after official cancellation

The 76th annual South Bend City Cross Country Meet failed to take place as an official event on September 8 after host school Riley canceled the competition hours before the scheduled start. Athletic Director Seabe Gavin Jr. cited concerns over conflicting schedules with a pre-existing meet at New Prairie. Despite the cancellation, coaches from participating schools utilized times recorded during the New Prairie Kick-Off Classic to manually calculate unofficial city meet results. Six of the seven participating programs were present at the New Prairie course, with only Career Academy absent. Based on these secondary calculations, South Bend Adams secured team championships for both the boys and girls programs, while Annika Lute and Gabriel Fulcher earned individual titles. The meet was originally slated for September 3 at Erskine Park Golf Course but faced multiple relocations and scheduling complications throughout the week.
