Regional newspapers open weekly athlete voting polls for Florida high school sports

Local news outlets in Sarasota, Manatee, Brevard, and Southwest Florida have launched weekly online polls to recognize outstanding high school performances from August 31 to September 5. Nominees include cross country runners, golfers, volleyball players, swimmers, bowlers, and football athletes selected based on coach reports. Notable football performances include Matthew Hennesey throwing for four touchdowns in Palmetto’s win and Maddox Stewart passing for six scores in Estero’s victory. Other highlighted athletes include swimmer Sadie Mirda, who won four races in a dual meet, and bowler Carson Espling, who rolled a 300 game. Readers are invited to cast votes on the websites of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Florida Today, the News-Press, and the Naples Daily News. Voting periods for these weekly honors close between September 10 and September 11.
